Director: Ali Akbar
Tamil film Appavi Katteri, instructed by Akbar Ali, is the tale of a creature of the night with a fantastic center. Not all skeletons have no center. That is what Kozhikode-based film director Ali Akbar wants to tell with his new Tamil film Appavi Katteri. It is the director’s first film in Tamil. “Having proved helpful in Chennai for Decade at the start of my profession, I am fairly relaxed with Tamil. And I experienced the tale of the creature of the night with a fantastic center would well fit the Tamil viewers,” says the film director who has created movies such as Younger Mandrake and Mukhamudra. Appavi Katteri is not a scary film, he contributes. “It is more of a comical film. The idol is a creature of the night (played by debutant Rafeeq) who abhors harming people even though he needs to consume blood vessels for his success. He attacks an offer with a team of criminals, who will grab blood vessels for him in come back for assisting them in their theft. Sreejith, who had came out in Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha and another cinema acting professional Mohammed Eravattoor also perform essential positions,” says Ali, who had won the Condition Prize for the best debutant film director for Mamalakalkkappurath. But for Thalaivasal Vijay and Devan, the celebrities mostly beginners. “Vijay performs a preacher, while Devan is a physician doing analysis on skeletons. Vijay has a lot of comical moments in the film. Appavi Katteri also satirises some of the creature of the night movies,” says Ali. The film is being taken in and around Kozhikode. “I will also capture the film in Chennai. Hopefully to launch it in Sept, both in Tamil Nadu and Kerala,” he says. Appavi Katteri is being generated by C.A. Gopakumar under the advertising of Gopika Movie Creators. Jagadeesh is the cinematographer, while Ali himself is the editor; he has also composed the program. Lines by Amudham have been updated by Kumar Valsal..
